I'm going to sew-it-together!
And this is my name tag, made by the lovely sew-it-together queen bee Sheridan. How lucky I am. My new dress even has petticoats!
Thanks so much Sheridan. I love it!
Are you going? Make sure to say hello if you are.

it's lovely to have crafty friends
I have some lovely crafting friends. There is a group of local girls who meet regularly at the craft room and every now and then we get to spend a whole Sunday together. Last week we had a glorious sunshiny but frosty cold day full of crafting at a sweet little old school house. I forgot the camera but took a few snaps on my phone.
In a few weeks I am going to Canberra for sew it together 2012. That is sure to be another weekend of cold weather and lovely company. I cant wait!

kitty style {the kid with the giant feet}
Kitty has enormous feet. She is still only two and she is in size 9. Every time I buy her new shoes I am astounded at how big they look at the ends of her skinny little legs. I guess chucks with a full skirt does nothing to hide them either, but I love this look. She is cute and goofy looking which fits her personality perfectly.

We are hooking up with small style over at mama loves papa. Tomorrow I will be back with some crafty updates. And a huge thank you to everyone who recommended picmonkey. I had my first play over there today and I think it will work out a treat.

I got my first nasty blog comment in years today. I deleted it and then straight away wished I had left it up so that I could have responded directly in the comments. Lucky I can cut and paste from my email notification.

"Why do people feel the need to digitally alter pics of children who are gorgeous naturally?
She is not a Blythe doll she is a human being."
Dear anonymous,
Thank you so much for noticing the natural beauty of my children. Of course it is genetic and they look that way because they have inherited my stunning good looks and graceful poise. Sadly my photography skills are not as memorable as my beauty and often the lighting is all wrong or my big toe is in the picture. I have learnt that these things are fun to fix with photo editing programs and I can even play around and pretend I am all arty and make my pictures look soft and dreamy like my kids or evoke a bygone era with some fancy stuff that clever people who make photo editing programs have spent hours putting together for me. I don't use any airbrushing or touching up on my kids directly because as you have already mentioned they simply don't need it. Perhaps you have actually underestimated how gorgeous they really are?
Thank you for also pointing out that she is not a blythe doll. Sometimes I do mix her up with my dollies but then I just have to remember that the ones that sit quietly in the cupboard are the dolls and the ones that play, giggle, scream and run around, get showered with love and attention and drive me slightly crazy are my children.
Oh and there is a little button where you can sign up to blogger and then respond to people and let them know who you are. Being anonymous is only fun for nasty types who are too afraid to stand behind their words and own their opinions.

kitty style {no picnik}
I am lost without picnik. I checked out some alternatives but I am technologically challenged. Can anyone recommend me an easy to learn photo editing site that is free or cheap and as similar to picnik as possible. Picasa just doesn't cut it. So excuse the crappy photos this week. Not only was the kiddo not in the mood but I couldn't pretty them up like I normally do.
No vintage for Kitty style this week. My bedroom is a mountain of clean washing that needs putting away and Kitty's room is pretty much in the same state so rather than chose a particular outfit this week we played pull some random clothes from the washing pile. This little gap dress was a fave last year and it still fits but is a little short. We teamed it with an old wash worn pair of navy leggings also from gap and a pom pom hairclip from gymboree. I would have put her red chucks on to complete the look but as you can see from the last pic Kitty had a little skateboarding accident the other day and has scraped the skin off the top of her feet. Obviously she is not keen on shoes right now so while we are home she is barefoot. I'm not sure what she was doing in these photos but it sure was making me dizzy.

j crew love
I adore j crew. I have for years. but it has always been a bit of a struggle to get my hands on it and I relied on some friendly US shopping buddies to get my fix. But now I am delighted to say they are shipping to Australia! Woohoo! They had free shipping for April so I snapped up some lovely winter woollies on sale and they arrived this week. Just look at these snuggly knits - aren't they delightful!
As for my effort with kids clothing week I sadly have to report a big fat fail. My poor dad got sick and we spent each day at the hospital. He is home now and on the mend but I didn't get much sewing done at all. I did cut out a few things and have half finished a little dress for Kitty so hopefully I can get them finished in time for her to wear them this winter.

kcwc 2012

The kids clothing week challenge over at elsie marley starts tomorrow. I am so out of the sewing loop these days that I didn't even realise it was coming up, but I am determined to get organised and join in. I have zero ideas for what I am even going to make but I have a trusty stash of fabric and patterns to help me get started and there is lots of inspiration and tutorials over at elsie marleys to help get me motivated as well. Any one else joining in the fun?

cake batter rice krispies
Do you like to lick the spoon when baking cakes? If your answer is yes, then you will like these. They are no bake so perfect for the kids but not so great if you are trying to eat clean like me. Pinterest really is an evil evil place.
Recipe from gimme some oven. I used a lot more cake mix than suggested, like half a packet more. And they are much better once refrigerated as well as easier to cut.
